A country of changing landscapes
Morocco faces the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean, with mountain landscapes and southern desert regions offering very different ways to travel. Choose a region and build time for the journeys between places.
- Coast: explore Essaouira, Agadir, Taghazout and Imsouane.
- Mountains: discover Atlas villages around Imlil and the Ourika Valley.
- Oases and kasbah country: begin with Ouarzazate, Skoura and Aït Ben Haddou.
- Desert: explore programmes around Merzouga and M’hamid with local guidance.
History you can explore on foot
Morocco’s heritage reflects Amazigh traditions, successive dynasties, Mediterranean connections and exchanges across trading routes. Historic medinas, archaeological sites and earthen settlements offer different windows into that story.
Compare the lanes of Fes and Marrakech, the archaeological remains of Volubilis and the architecture of Aït Ben Haddou. A knowledgeable local guide can connect the buildings with the life around them.
Living culture, not a display
Markets, workshops, tea, shared meals and local celebrations are part of everyday life. Visit with curiosity and respect: ask before portraits, entering workshops or photographing private homes.
A hosted cooking session or craft encounter can create a more personal introduction. Confirm the format and included services with the provider rather than assuming every visit includes a demonstration or meal.
Let food be part of the discovery
Explore tagines, couscous and regional dishes with a host who can explain their preparation. Coastal destinations offer another food perspective, while city markets introduce ingredients and local routines.
Tell your host about allergies and dietary needs before confirming. For seafood, ask about preparation and availability directly with the venue.
Build a route that leaves room to enjoy it
Start with your interests: culture, relaxation, surf, desert, nature or walking. Group nearby places, then select the experiences and transfers that make the route practical.
Check a current forecast and confirm local conditions before outdoor activities. A seasonal guide cannot guarantee sea conditions, trail access or a desert departure. Entry rules and official travel advice should be checked through current official sources.
